Boasting three distinct gardens, Cawdor has one of the best surviving examples of a Medieval Scottish walled garden, along with a Renaissance style flower garden and a modern wild garden, planted in the 1960s.

Drummond Castle,

Garden Date and Style: 17th Century, Italian

Rightly considered one of the finest surviving examples of the formal late Renaissance style in Europe, the gardens here were laid out around the 1630s. Interestingly, one of the gardeners employed here in the late 17th Century was John Reid, author of the first dedicated book on gardening in Scotland (see our Bibliography page).
